E-book on Building Pre-launch Buzz

I’d been planning to write at least one e-book this year as a part of the Six Figure Challenge. I’ve decided to make it (or at least my first) on building pre-launch buzz for a website or online business. Now I need your help….
I’ve been working on the outline, and I have the basics covered. You can help out by answering the following questions here in the comments:
1. Do you have a good example of website pre-launch buzz (could be for a major site, but I’d like to hear lesser-known stories as well such as for small niches)? Would you mind me mentioning it if it appeals to me and a point in the e-book (assuming it’s your own site)?
2. What specifically would you like to know about building a pre-launch buzz for an online venture? Is there a certain tactic that you think is worth added focus (like being “buzzworthy” in the first place? finding media contacts? etc.)? Do you have any specific questions that you’d like to make sure I address?
3. What have you tried in the past to build publicity pre-launch? Did it work for you? I want to guage what’s overdone a little bit to de-emphasize it, and what’s being ignored, so I can bring it more to the forefront.
I appreciate the feedback! :)

I’d like to know how to build a contact list - pre-launch.
This may be to beginner, and not enough on topic with what you’re looking to produce, but i’d be interested in knowing.
Are there different methods for pre-launch and post launch for building lists? If so, what are they?
That’s definitely something I’ll cover. :) Perhaps I’ll even do a post or two in the coming week with some beginner tips on building a contact list for an online launch. Building a list, in the most general sense, wouldn’t be terribly different pre- or post-launch. Pre-launch media list building obviously makes more sense, as you’ll want contacts available to announce the actual launch date to. However, if a site or business owner neglected any pre-launch buzz, they’d go about list-building in much the same way after the fact… finding relevant media outlets, journalists, and editors that would have a direct interest in what they have to say. I’ll cover more on the blog in the near future.

[…] I have the background to handle the book thoroughly, but I’m looking for some specific examples of techniques webmasters have used in the past (preferably not with major sites), whether they succeeded or failed. If you’d like to contribute a story or other feedback, you can do that at my recent post on the topic at my NakedPR blog. […]
