The ‘Why Memes Show I’m Better Than You’ Blog Meme

Influence (Credit: StockXpert.com)This blog meme is about the incredible influence blog memes convey. If you’re tagged, list three things in each of the below categories. Be sure to tag three new bloggers (but tag wisely… the more self-obsessed and link-share-loving your tag-ees, the more influence you must have).

Three Reasons I Think Blog Memes are Super Cool (even on professional blogs)

1. I get to talk about the all-important me-me-me, and nobody can stop me!!! *insert evil laugh here*

2. Because I can get a bunch of suckers (whoops, did I just call you that?) to link to my blog, so even more people can read all about me-me-me!!!

3. By tagging you, I can exert little to no effort while pretending to kiss your ass, and you think that means I actually give a damn about what you’re going to post about you-you-you. *yawn* It’s so much easier than giving you any real kudos (but then again, what have you done recently anyway?).

Three Reasons Memes Prove I Have More Influence Than You

1. I was tagged by a cooler blogger than you were (unless of course you’ve been tagged by moi).

2. I have more self-indulgent virtual friends than you. I know they’ll keep those damned memes going forever, because it’s a good way to disguise our “incestuous link love” (as a colleague so elequently puts it - you know who you are - for those reading this, see that? My circle’s exclusive, only for the truly influential, and you’re not invited!).

3. Natural linking, actual change or other actions stemming from your blog posts, and viral word-of-mouth exposure don’t really mean anything. Those supposedly “real” top bloggers have been lying to you all this time. They just don’t participate in memes, because nobody likes them, and they don’t want to admit it. SHAME on you for being so naive!!!

Thanks for the creation of a brand new meme! I’m sorry that I wasn’t tagged, but I am several generations of influence beneath you — gosh, I hope I’m high enough in the blogosphere ecosystem to be allowed to comment!

Also, thanks for triggering a great idea. I’m going to send out bots that scrape websites with the word “meme”, so I can start collecting data on people who fill out “55 things I’ve been keeping secret from you”.

Thanks Jen… I needed the laugh.

OMG the pressure - I was reading the post thinking, “me, me, me, please tag me”. Now what to do - do I massage your ego in return?

But of course, in being tagged, you already know I agree with you; I don’t think blog memes are super cool, ain’t bothered about pointless link love, and don’t need your ass-kissing.

Besides, if I do then, you have more influence than me - although I could resort to emailing my virtual friends who blog to take up the meme and then, I’ll show you, whose got the most love.

Sorry, I’m far too cynical for this game - I love you too, but the meme stops here!!

My Darling (satirical) Jennette, this is the most that influential you, you, you will get from me me me:

1. Blogito, ergo sum.

2. In the sphere the bloggers come and go meming of MyCallDontchaKnow.

3. Meme-ah Mia

Damn Heather… you’ve foiled my evil plan. :(

LOL @ Judy - This is why I love you guys. I knew you wouldn’t disappoint. ;)

Arrgh! That is cruel and unusual punishment, Jenn. But no matter how much I love your blog and your independent voice, I could never look my students in the eye if I perpetuated a meme — even a satirical one.

Just last week I told readers of my blog how we teach blogging in my class:

“Blogging. Students create blogs focused on specific areas of PR and post 10 times over 12 weeks. They create and implement a plan to build readership, but without resorting to trickery such as blog memes and selfish link-baiting.”

So I guess I gotta play the role of friggin’ role model! I teach them an old fashioned concept — that good content will draw quality readership. But you know that.

Looks like I really did pick the best of the bunch then Bill. Your students can be proud. ;)

[…] Some people think memes are only for the most narcissitic, self-absorbed people on earth. C’mon… they’re just for fun!   […]
